What tanks look like in The Acreage

Most homes in The Acreage run on private wells, and well water is the single biggest difference between a tank here and one in town. Acreage wells commonly carry iron, hardness and sometimes the rotten egg smell of hydrogen sulfide, and every home's softener or filter setup is a little different. Water that is fine for a shower can still stain a tank orange, feed algae or swing pH in a planted tank.

So the first visit starts with the water. Jason tests what comes out of the tap after the house treatment, then decides what the tank needs: conditioned well water for a hardy freshwater tank, or RO/DI water for a reef and for sensitive fish. Saltwater for reef tanks is mixed from purified water ahead of every visit.

Good to know in The Acreage

The lots are big, and a lot of them have ponds, canals and room for a water feature. Pond service here means managing the runoff from lawns and horse paddocks, keeping pumps clear of leaves and debris and keeping fish safe from the herons and otters that live along the canals.
